Estates

The Commonwealth dispossessed the Bishop of Winchester of its manors of East Meon. When the Restoration reinstated the Bishop as Lord of the Manor, the tenancy of the lands was re-assigned. From then, wealthy landowners emerged and large buildings were erected around the village, the most notable being Bereleigh, Westbury House and Leydene.
