History Open Day

GV letterbox2
On September 28th, 2013, the History Group held an Open Day in the Village Hall, designed to inform residents of East Meon about the history of their village and to collect memorabilia from families which had lived here for some time.
The Open Day was made possible thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which not only covered the expenses of the Day but enabled the Group to acquire the equipment necessary for scanning, indexing and archiving items, to print a guide to the village’s historic buildings and to create this digital archive.
Because the Group had committed to take part in the Saxons in the Meon Valley project, a re-enactment was held on the Green by young children of the battles of Stamford Bridge and Hastings.
