Plaque commemorating the opening of the Institute in 1887
East Meon Institute, which contained a Library, Coffee room and Hall, with Park Vista to the left.
The Church Institute was established in 1887 and demolished in 1972
Almshouses had been built on the eastern side of Church Street in 1904. No cottage in church yard, and the rifle range had been built at the institute (top left) so post 1918.
Part of the Institute can be seen at the left of this photo, with the rifle range between it and the Primitive Methodist Chapel.
